Windows 3.0 Installation Instructions
HP DeskJet Series V2.1 Printer Driver
Installing the Printer Driver
Start Windows and ensure that no memory resident programs are running.
1. Open Main and then open the Control Panel.
2. Open Printers, click Add Printer, and double click Unlisted Printer in
the List of Printers box.
3. Insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 1 and
double click your computer's disk drive, in the Directories list box.
4. Double click DJ500C.DRV in the Driver Files list box.
If you have a previous version of the HP DeskJet Series driver
installed you will be prompted with the dialog box shown below.
"A printer driver for this printer is already on the system. Do
you want to use the current driver of install a new driver?"
Click New to install the new driver.
5. Insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 when
prompted to "Insert Windows Setup Disk 2 or..." or "Insert DeskJet
Series Fonts..." and type your disk drive, click OK to select it.
6. Click OK to close the Printers dialog box.
7. IMPORTANT!!! You must close the Printers dialog box, close the Control
Panel and return to Main to ensure proper installation.
Selecting Printer Settings
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open Printer and click HP DeskJet Series V2.1 on None, Inactive, or
HP DeskJet Series V2.1 on . . ., Active.
3. Click Configure, select LPT1 or COM1 in the Ports list box, click
Setup.
4. Select your printer model and settings, as desired. If you have
problems installing the printer driver, go to the Printers dialog box,
if "HP DeskJet Series V2.1 on..." appears in the Installed Printers:
list box, select it and click Configure, Remove, OK. Then begin again.
Installing Printer Fonts
From the HP DeskJet Series V2.1... Printer Setup dialog box:
1. Click Fonts, select Printer Fonts, and click OK. Ensure that the HP
DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 is in the disk
drive.
If you have MasterType Library fonts or the HP DeskJet 500 Scalable
Printer Driver installed, or if you are reinstalling this printer
driver, click OK in the series of dialog boxes that ask you to update
existing files.
2. For first time installation, specify the directory to store your
driver configuration and font files. Use the default directory
(C:\TD\TYPE), or type an alternate drive/directory and click OK.
Click OK to confirm new directory.
3. Click Install Fonts.
4. Specify the disk drive where the font(s) will be installed from in the
Install Fonts Source Directory dialog box, then click OK.
5. Specify the directory where fonts will be stored. Use the default
directory (example, C:\TD\TYPE), or type an alternate drive/directory,
click OK.
6. Select fonts to install from the Printer Fonts From: list box and
click >>Copy>>. Fonts will appear in Installed Printer Fonts list box,
click OK to close Install Printer Fonts dialog box.
Creating Screen Fonts
1. Select Screen Fonts from the Fonts dialog box and click OK.
2. Select the printer fonts to make screen fonts from the Installed
Printer Font(s) list box.
3. Click >>Create>>. Screen fonts will be created in the standard point
sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, and 24. To add or delete screen font sizes,
select the font from the Installed Screen Font(s) list box and click
Edit Sizes.
4. Click OK to close the Create Screen Fonts dialog box.
5. Click Cancel to close the Fonts dialog box.
Activating Your Printer
1. Click OK to close the HP DeskJet Series V2.1 on . . . Printer Setup
dialog box.
2. Click OK to close the Printers-Configure dialog box.
3. Click Active in the Status box in the Printers dialog box.
4. Double click HP DeskJet Series V2.1 on . . . to make it your default
printer and click OK to close the Printers dialog box.
5. Close the Control Panel to return to Main, remove the disk from your
disk drive and store both disks.
